Barij History
The late Engineer Hossein Hejazi, the founder of Barijasans Pharmaceutical Company, who is known as the “father of Iran’s essential oil industry”, was born in 1324, in cultural families in the city of Barzak around Kashan. His father was a teacher. Engineer Hejazi dates back to the village of Sterk in Kashan. He completed his primary and secondary education in Kashan, until his final year of high school, for family reasons, in Tehran and Nezam High School. He graduated in Agricultural Machinery Engineering from Shiraz International University in 1349, has a certificate of design and implementation of modern irrigation from Europe and is the founder of the following companies:
Golkaran Agriculture and Industry: Established in 1985
Distillery Equipment and Machinery Company: Established in 1990
Barij Essence Pharmaceutical Company: Established in 1992
In the first years of the revolution, he was elected as the head of Kashan’s agricultural department. At that time, there was an inactive rose and essential oil factory near Qamsar in Kashan, and it was part of the property of the Department of Agriculture, the equipment of which had been purchased from Bulgaria before the revolution, but had not been set up. Engineer Hejazi decided to revive and launch this factory. Since they were very interested in this work, they began to study and research on essential oils and the method of industrial rose water. One of the books he read reads: “Abu Ali Sina was an Arab scientist who discovered the essential oil for the first time and named it gem or essence!”
The late engineer Hejazi, after reading this article, is upset and decides to introduce the essential oil discovered by an Iranian to everyone. As a result, he started a factory and started extracting essential oils. Although he had a good record in Kashan Agriculture Department, he also resigned from his government job and sold his only residential house and bought a farm near Mashhad Ardehal, without any facilities. Hejazi, with the cooperation and participation of his brothers Behrouz and Seyed Taghi Hejazi and the son-in-law of Hossein Asgari family, first established the “Golkaran Cultivation and Industry” company in 1363 and began to obtain essential oils; While the buildings and equipment of this company were built with their own hands, in order to launch and develop the essential oil industry in Iran, they decided to build the relevant equipment and make it available to others and teach the knowledge of this work to others. To this end, he has established another company called “Distillation Machinery”, which produces equipment and machines for extracting essential oils. At that time, with many studies, they realized the very strong therapeutic effects of essential oils and decided to formulate the essential oils and turn them into medicine. In this way, make them available to the public to make it easier for people to use these materials. To achieve this goal, Barijasans Pharmaceutical Company, a manufacturer of medicines and cosmetics and food products based on herbal active ingredients, was established in 1371 and in 1374, it officially launched its products to the market. In addition to the establishment and operation of Barijasans Company, 10 satellite companies that cover all stages of the supply chain up to distribution, will be established by them to provide raw materials of appropriate quality. At present, the group of companies established and active by him, has employed about 1000 people full-time on a full-time basis. For this reason, he was selected as the “Exemplary Entrepreneur of the Country” in 2006.
