Department of Phytochemistry

Definition:

Phytochemistry of herbal chemistry is the study of chemical compounds in plants especially the bioactive materials in medicinal herbs. Phytochemicals are the secondary metabolic substances found in plants. These show a number of biological effects such as anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, etc. Techniques commonly used in the field of phytochemistry are extraction, isolation, purification, and structural elucidation of natural products by spectroscopy (MS, NMR, IR, UV) as well as various chromatography techniques (HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS).

Group Goals:

1. Extraction, isolation, and identification of active materials in medicinal plants
2. Purification of bioactive substances of medicinal plants
3. Analysis of intermediates and active materials in pharmaceutical products
4. Synthesis of intermediates and active materials of medicinal herbs
5. Communication and cooperation in carrying out research projects in the field of medicinal plant chemistry and research centers of the country
