Barij appetizing syrup, which is mentioned in the ancient texts of traditional medicine as pomegranate syrup, is about two thousand years old in the field of health and treatment. The famous first-century pharmacist Disqoridos used a combination of pomegranate and mint juice to treat indigestion and nausea, and Galen considered pomegranate to be more effective than apples in treating nausea and strengthening the stomach. In the Islamic era, a combination of pomegranate and mint was made in the form of syrup to improve its taste and effectiveness. Razi (4th century AH) introduced pomegranate syrup to strengthen the stomach. In the next century, Ibn Sinan showed that this syrup can not only strengthen the stomach, but also increase appetite. After Ibn Sina, other physicians have also mentioned the astringent effects of this syrup.

Barij appetizing syrup has other medicinal properties in addition to strengthening the appetite. Pomegranate (Punicagranatum) as the dominant component of this product, due to its compounds of polyphenols, tannins, anthocyanins and flavonoids is the best source of ellagic acid. Recent studies have shown that alginic acid has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is involved in the elimination of toxins from the body. Pomegranate juice is also rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, calcium, iron and..

In Europe today, mint (Mentha spicata) in the form of tea with a little honey to strengthen digestion is common. Evidence has shown that the volatile compounds in the aerial branches of the plant are stomach tonic and, therefore, synergistic with pomegranate.
